I purchased this to use at night. My wife and I go to sleep at different times and I can utilize this product when watching TV in the bedroom. I can keep the TV volume low so as not to wake her up. It works perfectly. Obviously this unit will pick up any sound in the area. Not meant to isolate one single sound in the area. That is not what the product advertises!!

I wanted to use this while using the treadmill so that I could hear the TV. It picked up the sound of the treadmill and I could not hear the TV. If anyone talked nearby the sound was magnified to the point of hurting my ears. I believe this would be the same situation wherever people were gathered such as shows, church, etc. The nearest sound is what gets amplified.
